Alan James is a Reader in International History in the Department of War Studies, King's College London.  He is an editor of a recent volume, Religion and War: from Antiquity to Early Modernity (Bloomsbury, 2024), and author and editor of a number of other books and essays on early modern France.  His interests are in early modern warfare, especially naval warfare, and the transition to modernity.  In 2022-23, he was a resident fellow of the Institute of Advanced Study in Paris.
